The jump season got underway at Chepstow racecourse last weekend with two exciting days of racing marking the season opener and a packed race card featuring two top class races which we were proud to sponsor.
Our Managing Director Sarah-Jane Fedarb commented “Like many sports and sectors, racing is facing difficult times, with Covid 19 restrictions requiring that racing takes place behind closed doors. However racing behind closed doors is far better than no racing at all!”
Here at Champion we have been a long time supporter of the sport of racing. Our founding father John Ayres had the privilege and pleasure of owning many racehorses over his lifetime, and his love of point-to-pointing and National Hunt racing was well known to all who knew him.
Sarah-Jane continues “Sadly John passed away in 2013, however we are proud to continue his support of the sport. Champion products are still made a short distance from Chepstow in Cardiff and to see his legacy and memory live on in the riders wearing Champion safety helmets and body protectors is very fitting.”
The 2m Champion Hats Juvenile Hurdle was won by HELL RED (pictured), one of Paul Nicholls’ 8 winners and Harry Cobden’s 7 of the two day meeting! Owned by Sir Martin Broughton. The 2m 3f John Ayres Memorial Handicap Chase was won by PINK EYED PEDRO, which was actually a very Welsh affair – trained and owned by David Brace (Dunraven) and ridden by son Conor Brace.
