A Champion Day at Chepstow

Champion Equestrian were once again delighted to continue their support by sponsoring two races at the inaugural Chepstow Jump Season Opener.  The 14th -15tH October hails the beginning of the National Hunt season, celebrated at the Chepstow Opening meet.

The highlight of the weekend for Finest Brands International, home to iconic British equestrian safety brand Champion was the John Ayres Memorial Handicap Steeple Chase. A lifelong racing enthusiast and founder of Champion Hats, John started Champion over 40 years ago with a determination to drive safety standards forward within the equestrian industry.

An exciting race, the steeplechase was won by Sam Twiston-Davies on Romain De Senham trained by Paul Nicholls.  A double celebration as Sam celebrated not only the win but his birthday too.

In addition on the race card was The Champion Hats Juvenile Hurdle which saw Gumball clear of the field (4/6F) ridden by Richard Johnson and trained by Philip Hobbs.

Alongside the sponsorship Champion invited one lucky competition winner Fiona Badu and her son, Jack Osborne a budding young jockey along to Chepstow to enjoy a day of horse racing.  Fiona and Jack were treated to hospitality including lunch, race tipster and were presented with a new Champion Ventair Deluxe Helmet and Ti22 Body Protector by the sensational Wocket Woy and The Pwoducer on the podium in the parade ring following the Champion Hats Juvenile Hurdle Race.

“This is a very special day in the Champion calendar, John enjoyed a lifelong passion for racing and was well known on the rails as an advocate for progressive safety, it’s a highlight in our year which the team at Chepstow make extra special. As well as cheering on from the side lines we are happy to offer every jockey a new Champion hat, and place the odd bet to get into the spirit of the day” explained Sarah-Jane Fedarb, Managing Director of Champion Hats.
